Pakistan Day marked by flag hoisting at Pakistan High Commission London Silent Revolution sweeping across Pakistan: Syed Ibne Abbas To celebrate the 76th National Day of Pakistan, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Pakistan High Commission London today. H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas,Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK, hoisted the national flag and the National Anthem was played. The messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were also read out.
President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in their messages stated that Pakistan came into being through a long democratic struggle and now the key to its stability and development also lies in democracy.
Therefore, they said, it is essential to promote the spirit of tolerance and patience which are the fundamentals of democracy so that the existing challenges of extremism and terrorism can be overcome by the nation. Both the leaders reiterated their resolve to ensure freedom, equality and social justice for every citizen of Pakistan as enshrined in the teachings of Islam.
In his address, the High Commissioner paid fulsome tribute to the heroic struggle of the Muslims of the Sub-continent for achieving an independent homeland under the pchmaing leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Speaking about the national scene, the High Commissioner said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a silent revolution was sweeping across Pakistan and the country was moving forward. He said: “The economy was improving; security has significantly improved; cultural festivities are picking up; and people of Pakistan are feeling more confident today.”
Appreciating the role of diaspora, the High Commissioner invited them to
contribute towards the progress and development of Pakistan. He urged the youth to volunteer in the academic institutions of Pakistan. The High Commissioner also made a mention of the improvements in Consular Services during the last one and a half year and said the Mission as desired by the Prime Minister would continue to serve the community in a better way. On this occasion, the High Commissioner also condemned the recent attacks of terrorism and expressed solidarity with the nations which suffered terrorism.
A large number of people representing the cross section of Pakistani community,
representatives from the FCO and media representatives attended the ceremony.
They were served with traditional Pakistani brunch.
Similar events were held at other four Consulates of Pakistan in Birmingham,
Bradford, Manchester and Glasgow.
