Five members of a family were killed in a collision between a truck and a passenger van at Pindi Road in Chakwal on Tuesday.

Six others were also injured all of whom were children. Rescue teams reached the scene of the accident and shifted the bodies of the victims and the injured to DHQ hospital.

Among the deceased were three men and two women all belonging to the same family. The deceased have been identified as Abdul Rahima, Abdul Shakoor, Zahid Iqba, Mehvish and Rahila, Express News reported. Their bodies were handed over to the family after the due legal process by the police.

According to the police, the accident occurred due to overspeeding by the driver.

Bad road infrastructure, poor driving, non-implementation of traffic laws and regulations often cause deadly accidents like this in Pakistan. In March, five members of an extended family were killed while 16 others sustained injuries in a road accident on Chiniot-Lahore Road. Earlier in the same month nine people, including three women and a child, lost their lives when a jeep fell into a roadside gorge in Mansehra.
