Nothing to do with arrest: Fawad Chaudhry

KHEWRAFederal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Friday said the government was totally impartial and had nothing to do with the arrest of former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).Talking to reporters, Fawad said that the government had no control over NAB “which is an independent institution”. The government was, however, providing the required support to the bureau in its actions against the corrupt, he added.

“We represent the people of Pakistan and want those who have looted the national wealth to be brought to justice,” he said.The minister said NAB had initiated an inquiry into alleged corruption in the Rs56 billion Ashiana Housing Scheme and other schemes launched during the tenure of the previous government which even continued during the interim set-up.The case had now entered the investigation stage as NAB had traced massive corruption in the schemes, he added.Fawad said the government would provide full support to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other institutions for rooting out the menace of corruption from the country.
